It’s funny. You’d
think that after twenty years of living with myself, these profile pages would
be a breeze to write. Twenty years of
experiences—twenty years of stories. I
should be brimming with twenty years’ worth of things to say—regurgitating twenty
years’ worth of words.
And yet, I have nothing.
So, I guess the basics are going to have to do for now. I’ll be following the college orientation
week guidelines, of course. These are
the things you say to anyone willing to lend an ear during that first week of
your freshman year in college. These are
defining words. When you have a few
minutes to make an impression, a few sentences to paint a picture of yourself,
and a few words to make that Sex-and-the-City-status friend, these are the
words that I guarantee you, I, and every incoming college freshman will utter.
Hi, my name is (blank) and I’m from (blank). If you’re feeling fancy, throw in what you’re
planning on majoring in as well, because that clearly defines who you were,
are, and will be, as a person.
So here you are—the obligatory: Hi, my name is Kimberly and
I’m from Southern California. I’m
currently majoring in…wait, I’m actually not feeling fancy. Not today at least.
But now that we’re a few seconds into this soon to be
life-long, Monica-and-Rachel-status friendship, on to more important
matters. I like mangos, sloths, and
breakfast burritos, and the only relationship I’m in is a beautifully unhealthy
one with any and all kinds of nut butters.
I love food too much to be a strong believer in diets, but with that
being said, I’m as much a believer in moderation as I am a believer in
indulgence. I enjoy hiking almost as
much as the next Billy goat, and adventures just as much as Huckleberry
Finn. Spontaneity, in my opinion, is the
best cure for a case of the boredoms, and pumpkin anything is the best cure for
a case of the anythings, really. As I’ve
gotten older, I’ve begun to realize that time is not as tall as I had once
imagined him to be. In fact, he’s quite
short. And so, for the sake of time,
I’ll leave it at that. But here’s to new
friendships, adventures and experiences.
Come along for the ride, and I guarantee the journey will be far more
fulfilling and informative than even the most fulfilling and informative
profile pages--including the ones fluffed up with pumpkin.
